Episode 2 - Moving forward (1 single, 2 website and limiting myself)

Hey, it’s good to have you here. My name is Kamil Słaby. I am an artist. I am building my creative studio, “Superior”. I am doing this to gain financial leverage and bring my creative ideas to life. I want to do all of that while empowering other artists. This is me documenting the process. The last entry was a starting point. Today will be more practical. Let’s talk about what I have done and what the plan is.

2 Websites

I built 2 websites for my digital presence.

The first website is my personal one at kamilslaby.com. This will be my blog and central hub. It is the headquarters of everything I do.

The second website is for my creative studio at superior-studios.com. I also bought superior-studio.com, just in case someone misspells it. It is a small thing, but it matters. As I learned from playing “League of Legends”, it is better to be safe than sorry. This will be the main page for my business. Under “/services” I created a landing page for audio services.

Those are my digital headquarters or business cards as of right now.

When I go to networking events. I bring those NFC cards with me. They have my website and Instagram profile encoded into them. People can just tap their phone and it’s there.

I am not a professional web designer, but I know my way around things. So both of my pages have rather clean designs. I hope you like them, because I am not fully satisfied. I know they could be better. But we are about 80% there, and that is enough for now. My inner perfectionist would spend another year working on this. And do not tell my wife how many times I have rebuilt my website over the years. At least 8 times already. Now they are live and working. That is what matters.

First Single and More Music

A few weeks ago, I released my single “Ultima Astra”. If you want to check it out, you can find it on YouTube Channel. If you want to support what I do, go visit my Bandcamp page and get the high quality file there. If you do, thank you. That means the world to me.

This is my “first” release after restarting my career. I promised myself no more do-overs. I will build my career on top of that.

I really like the “Ultima Astra” and the lore behind it. I think I would share some of that. I would love to break down the track and share the story behind it. Maybe I will do that in a future entry.

For now, I am very happy it is finally out. At the time of writing this, I have exactly 131 unfinished projects on my hard drive. So the ratio is 1 to 131 so far. I do not even want to count how many I have deleted over the years.

Right now, I am working on new music. Small project with the codename “LAVA TRANSITOR”, which is ambient combined with minimal synth sounds. That should be out soon. I need to listen to it today and finish the mix.

There are two albums in the production. One codename “Air Of Warsaw”. Still trying to figure out the identity of it. It’s definitely more energy than “Astra” or “Lava”. More like ambient mixed with edm. We will see about that. The second one that is way bigger is the codename “Rewire”. This has a dystopian, cyberpunk feel to it. It has been growing on my hard drive for at least a year and a half already. No release dates on any of them. I might drop some other singles before those two go out.

I got my new year’s resolution. I plan to release at least 12 tracks this year. That’s a solid tempo. 1 is done, 11 more to go. That’s about music for now.

Content Plan

You see me putting in the work, but there is no reach. I know this, because no one read my previous blog entry. After more than 4 weeks, my video has 8 views and 1 like, and all of that comes from me.

If I want to grow my digital presence, I need to create more content. That is difficult for me. I have no idea how to do it. I am not someone who naturally likes sharing. I would rather focus on music, focus on the work itself. I hope that one day I will hire a content agency to handle it. For now it is what it is and I need to get over myself and embrace the cringe.

So I came up with a baseline plan for content. It’s easier for me to plan in months, 4 weeks. We are at the beginning of April, and this will be my trail run for it.

I want to create: One pillar content. This is exactly that. One motion sound redesign. One track deconstruction video and 4 music playing around reels, I call them “sound design”, but maybe there will be more than just synths. That gives us 7 pieces of content. If I could produce that, put it out that would be a little success. And then we will see how it feels like, what can be done better and optimize and put some more.

Challenge to limit yourself

I am big on technology and new tools, new plugins. It gets me excited to try new things. Especially new software instruments. And I know I already have too much of everything. I am at the moment where I have accumulated everything I wanted to do a proper audio engineering job. So for now I won’t buy new things. And those I already have I will slowly delete and uninstall. I want to intentionally limit myself to as few tools as possible. I love new gear, but I believe creativity thrives under constraints.

I have spent far too much money on plugins and equipment. When I look at the ratio of how many things I own to what I have actually released, the ratio is completely off. Ideally, it should be closer to 1 to 1. Right now, I have 1 official release and at least 100 of plugins.

So here is my challenge, both to myself and to you. For every piece of gear, plugin, sample pack, or subscription you own, create and release at least one track. How does that sound?

That’s all for today. See you around. All glory to God.
